Lesson 4: Emergency Evacuation Kits
(Contact Hours: 0.17)
In this lesson, you will learn what to pack in an emergency evacuation kit. Every kit should have important items like food, water, and medicines. It should also include medical supplies, any durable medical equipment or assistive technologies that a person uses, and batteries or chargers for them. Emergency kits should also have copies of important papers, like birth certificates, titles, leases, and a medication list. If the person has a service animal or pet, you should pack an emergency kit for them, too.
Lesson 5: Emergency Shelter in Place
(Contact Hours: 0.16)
In this lesson, you will learn what it means to shelter in place, and when to do this. You will also learn that sometimes you might need to stay where you are during an active shooter event. During an extended shelter in place, the power might go out. Because of this it’s important to be prepared, have back-up power supplies and batteries, and have food supplies ready. Lastly, as a caregiver, there are many things you should do to help keep the person safe and healthy when sheltering in place.
